Rain and wet roads may have been the cause of a collision which claimed the life of one and injured three Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 6 near the Carbon-Emery County border.

According to Utah High Patrol Sgt. John Kelly, the crash, which occurred near mile marker 264, killed the driver of a red Ford Escort. Two other individuals were injured in the incident, sustaining abrasions and possible broken bones, according to public safety dispatch reports.

Victim names are being withheld by the UHP until next-of-kin can be notified.

According to those on scene, the west bound Ford was hit when an east bound Toyota 4Runner hydroplaned and slid sideways hitting the Ford.

According to Kelly, rain and wet conditions are being investigated by the highway patrol as a cause for the collision.

The injured were transported via ambulance to Castleview Hospital by emergency medical technicians.

Castleview's Air-Med helicopter was reportedly dispatched to the scene but recalled once the Ford's driver was pronounced dead.

Traffic was delayed in both directions for more than three hours as public safety crews worked to transport the accident's victims, investigate the collision and clear the highway.

Check back here and in Tuesday's edition of the Sun Advocate for more details as they are made available by the Utah High Patrol.
