Golden Eagles' season comes to an end
The USU Eastern Baseball team completed play down at the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference tournament last week.
USU Eastern lost a three-game series with Mesa Community College, losing two games in a row including an 11-1 defeat on May 1 and an 8-0 loss on May 2.
USU Eastern Head Coach Scott Madsen said the team gave up a lot of unearned runs and had a lot of errors on the defensive end which helped result in the two losses.
To add to the unique trip the bus that took the team down to the tournament broke down outside of Flagstaff. That resulted in the players and coaching staff being stuck on the side of the road for over five hours.
"It made for a long trip," said Madsen.
While the performance in the tournament was not the way the Golden Eagles wanted to end the season, Madsen said the team had a successful season especially with a young group of freshmen helping to contribute every game.
"I feel like the team did well this season," said Madsen. "Our freshmen class will help out a lot and we should be returning a lot of starters for next year."
