Play on: Helper American Legion Baseball to play this summer
After having some doubts as to whether they would be able to have a team this season, there will indeed be a Helper American Legion Baseball this summer.
Jeff Cisneros, who retired last season after coaching the team for 20 years, said he would be coming back to help ensure that there is a team in Helper.
"I didn't want to see us go without having a team," said Cisneros. "We've put in too much work over a lot of years to just see everything disappear."
All of the registration forms have been taken care of, Cisneros said, ensuring that the Helper American Legion team would be able to play this season.
Cisneros said he will rely upon a coaching staff that will help step in and run the team during times he will be away. Cisneros said he is focused in helping continue to build the boys basketball program at Carbon High and will need time for summer camps and other time commitments toward the program.
"One way or another we'll make sure that things will work out for the team this summer," said Cisneros.
Tryouts for the Helper team will be held on Monday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the Helper Ballpark.
Players must be born on or after Jan. 1, 1995 to be eligible. Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2002 are not eligible to play American Legion Baseball.
Helper is set to host another tournament at home this season from June 19-22 with seven other teams participating.
