Price Legion Baseball ready for start of season
Price wins doubleheader practice games with Uintah ahead of showdown with Helper on June 9
After going through tryouts and a handful of practices, there's nothing like playing in a game to find out what a team is really made of.
For the Price American Legion Baseball team, a few warm up games with Uintah was just what the team needed.
Price swept a doubleheader with Uintah, including wins of 3-0 and 8-3 on Friday afternoon at the Carbon High Baseball Field.
"I was very pleased with their performance against Uintah," said Price Head Coach Willie Ellington.
Price got a big boost in the first game from pitcher Zac Hathaway who shook off a tough first inning with three hit batters to shutdown the Uintah offense en route to the 3-0 win.
Caden Sherman hit a two-run double and Jeter Tubbs added an RBI double to pace the offense.
Ellington said the team battled back in the second game getting a key hit from Wyatt Thayn to retake the lead in the 8-3 win.
Now Price will shift their attention to rival Helper as they will play on Monday, June 9 at 6 p.m. at the CHS Baseball Field.
"Getting those wins against Uintah was really important for us confidence-wise," said Ellington noting Helper's State Championship last season. "Our guys just need to focus on putting their best game on the field against Helper."
