The city of Price went dark Tuesday afternoon as every substation in the city's grid was knocked off line.

According to Price Infrastructure Specialist and Electrical Manager Ken Harney, Rocky Mountain Power's 46,000 volt line took a hit of some kind at approximately 4:30 p.m. causing the city's substations to trip.

The RMP line feeds every substation in Price, meaning that any disruption in its current will take down the entire power system in Price.

Whatever the issue was with the RMP line it was momentary, said Harney, as the city's substations reset on their own and power was restored to the majority of the city within a couple of minutes.

Because the High School substation failed to reset on its own, about 500 customers remained without power for about 30 minutes.

Price City officials manually reset the substation near Carbon High and restored power to the remainder of the city.

The cause for the original bump is not yet known.
