County won't sell Airport Road land, but may consider leasing to Tram
Tram Electric, located on Airport Road next to the Carbon County Ambulance garage, needs more space to expand, and they approached the Carbon County Commission on June 4 to see if they could purchase what appears to be open property behind the garage.
"We would like to expand into that area for employee parking," said Lezlie Allred, who was representing the company."
However, being that it is public property, owned by the county, Assistant County Attorney Christian Bryner quickly pointed out that any public property that was sold would have to put through a public process to do so.
"We may have to put it up for public bid," he reminded the commission.
The county commissioners discussed the proposal, but at least two of them saw the land as a possible expansion for emergency services.
"I always thought of that as being land we could use in case we needed to expand what we have there," said Commission Chairman John Jones.
Commissioner Casey Hopes also voiced the same concern. However, he did bring up another idea of how Tram might be able to work with the county on the property.
"I think we could consider a lease agreement on the land," he said.
As the commissioners discussed the situation they decided that they would have the idea of a lease agreement researched to see what could be done to accommodate Tram's request.
That same evening the commission opened the county's budgets. County Clerk Seth Oveson went through and explained changes and challenges that had been made throughout the last quarter. The commissioners said they were to this as a process to stay on top of the finances of the county, but the opening of the budget does require a public hearing along with it and that had not been advertised. They said they would go through the same process once again in the next county commission meeting, but this time the opening would be advertised in a legal notice.
Finally the commission also approved the tax sales of property for May, despite one challenge from an owner who wanted more time to straighten out their tax bill.
