Carbon Rodeo Club finishes strong at state competition
The Carbon Rodeo Club put the finishing touches on another strong season with three members qualifying for national and regional competitions later this summer.
Afton McCourt placed second in the Breakaway Roping at the Utah High School State Rodeo Finals in Heber City earlier this month which qualified her for the National High School Rodeo Competition in Rock Springs, Wyo., from July 12-18.
Teammates Zach and Morgan Jensen also added strong performances at the State Finals which helped them to qualify for the Silver Spur competition in Winnemucca, Nev. Morgan Jensen competed despite dealing with a compression fracture in her back suffered after being bucked off by her horse two weeks before the state finals.
Casey Rich competed in the Rifle Shoot, finishing in the top 25 and Dakota Willis placed 28th in the Trap Shooting competition. Stash Cornforth competed in the Tie-down Roping competition placing 71st in the event.
Jill Jensen, an advisor for the Carbon Rodeo team, said the team had an excellent year overall and improved with each meet over the season.
"They put in a lot of hard work over the whole season and they finished with a really good performance at the State Finals," said Jensen.
