Helper bats awaken to help break losing streak
Just getting that one key hit in a big situation had been eluding the Helper offense during a recent losing streak.
That trend continued in the first game of a doubleheader with Herriman on Monday as Helper could not convert opportunities with runners in scoring position during a 3-2 loss.
But Helper battled back in the second game using a seven run third inning to take a 7-3 lead that they would not relinquish. Helper continued to add runs pushing their lead to 12-4 before Herriman rallied to make it 12-8.
Helper Head Coach Jeff Cisneros said the team needs to find ways to win close games.
"The first game was a tough one to lose," said Cisneros. "I was very pleased that we bounced back to win the second game."
Cisneros noted that both league losses that Helper has have come by just one run.
With Helper behind Cyprus in the league standings, they have a chance to cut the lead down when they traveled to play Cyprus on Wednesday evening.
Helper will return home on Monday, July 7 when they host rival Price, whom they defeated in the first game between the two on June 9.
