Smoke billowing out of Idaho, Washington and Oregon wild fires was cited as the source of the haze and smell that covered Castle Country Wednesday.

Heather McLean of the Manti LaSal National Forest Price field office said Wednesday afternoon that there were no major fires reported in the vicinity. There have been a few small blazes locally that were quickly extinguished.

Rumors have circulated that there were fires near Skyline Mine and Spring Canyon, but calls to people in the area said there were no blazes evident.

Meanwhile, a contact in Salt Lake told the Sun Advocate the smoke was also thick up north.
