The Carbon High Boy's Golf team is quickly picking up where last year's team left off.

The Dinos participated in a season opening tournament with other Region 12 teams down in St. George at the Sunbrook Golf Club, where the State Tournament will be held at the end of the season in October.

Carbon won by four with a total of 341 to second place Richfield with 345. North Sanpete placed third with 358, Payson in fourth with 366 and Juab in fifth with 368.

Freshman Ryan Gagon led the Dinos shooting an 81. Fellow freshman Ryker Smith shot an 82.

Fellow Carbon teammates Kayden Alderson (86), Wyatt Henrie (92), Joey Penovich (99) and Kreed Keele (106) also played a role in the Dinos coming away with a win.

"They did well for the first tournament of the year," said CHS Head Coach Tom King.

King is hoping to get the team to lower their team total to somewhere around 320-330. That score would keep Carbon in the running to win every match, King said.

"Overall the boys played well down there," he said. "They're learning quickly but we've got to continue to work on a few things."
