PRICE - Dorothy Jeanette "Dot" Coggins Fry went home to be with her Lord on July 19, 2013. In 2011, Dot suffered a stroke and after two and a half years of being in a constant state of vulnerable complications, she took her last breath as her family and friends gathered close to her side in her home.

Dot was born on July 21, 1933, in small mining town, Powhatan, Ala. Her father, Tilton James Coggins, worked as a coal miner in Powhatan, but when Dot was ten years old, he found work in Dragerton. Once he quickly settled in, Tilton James had his wife, Alice Idella Hogan Coggins, and their eight children jump on the train to join him in Dragerton.

While Dot and her siblings slowly acclimated to the new community, they held on tight to their Alabama family traditions such as the southern recipes Mother brought with her and the life stories Mother shared while the kids gathered around the coal stove.

The family always made it a point to attend church, even when Mother had to stay home with the new baby siblings. Dot was "the number five" of a family which eventually grew to a total of thirteen brothers and sisters. Dot held her siblings very close to her heart and family has always been one of the most important things in her life. Dot attended Carbon High School and graduated in 1951.

When she was at a family function in 1958, Dot met Perry, and on their third date, June 27, they got married. She then obtained her Bachelors degree from Weber State and her Masters from Utah State. Through those years, Dot and Perry built their family of two boys and two girls. Dot started teaching school in 1969 and taught for a total of twenty four years at Durrant and Castle Heights Elementary Schools. During those years, she also loved to teach Sunday School, VBS, and Girl Scouts. She loved children, but more importantly knew a good education and discipline would give a child success in life.

She retired from teaching school in 1993, but never stopped sharing her wisdom as she volunteered in classrooms and at church. After retiring, she took the opportunity to travel with her Delta Kappa Gamma sorority sisters as well as her family on various trips.

Dot is survived by husband Perry L. Fry, Price; two sons and two daughters, Terry Fry, Grand Junction, Colo; Jerry (Shirley) Fry, Price; Debra Fry, Price; Leah (David) Henderson, Woodland Hills, Calif; brothers and sisters, Mary Brotherson, Polly Kranker, Joy (Don) Huitt, Jerry (Dixie) Coggins, Carol Wilding, Shirley (Bill) Butz, Linda (Kent) Lindsey, Charlotte (Bill) Sibley; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dot was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Bill and Bobby Coggins; sisters Sue Whitlock and Helen Owen; and grandson Jeffrey Grako.

The family would like to express profound appreciation to Tiffany Noyes and Chanda Mills from the Rocky Mountain Hospice, for giving Dot the very special care she needed and deserved during these last few weeks. A special thank you to Tim Kranker, Pat Frandsen and Joy Huitt for their devoted hours of unconditional care and love towards Dot. Sincere thanks to the East Carbon Community Church and Pastor Bill Wright for their generosity in service and friendship.

Celebration service is Friday, July 26, 2013, at 11 a.m., Price Chapel- CMA. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home and Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Dot online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
