PRICE - Mel "Corky" Nichols, age 83, passed away Sept. 2, 2013 in Price.
He was born June 29, 1930 in Helper to Harry R. and Virginia Johnson Nichols. On June 25, 1949, he married Beulah Faye Wilcoxson in Spring Glen; she preceded him in death on July 20, 1990.
Corky grew up in Spring Canyon coal camp, Castle Gate, and Spring Glen. He spent his life in Carbon County and never wanted to live anywhere but Price. In his youth he enjoyed amateur boxing and held the Utah AAU State Champion Amateur title. He was a graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1948 and enjoyed coaching baseball and softball.
Corky's family, Beulah Faye Wilcoxson (deceased); three children: Sherrie Gordon, Larry Allan Nichols (deceased) and Vickie Passarella; four grandchildren, Johni Lyn (Corey Burnside), CW (Melinda) Gordon, Jeff Passarella (Dusty) and Jennifer Passarella; nine great-grandchildren, Lyndsie, Breanna, Taylor, T'Ann, Kelton, Trenity, Cienna, McKinlee, Berkley and Hayden; and one great-great-grandchild, Byntlie; four brothers and one sister, Robert (Betty), William (Sandy), Fred (Geraldine), Connie Cutler (Paul) and Gary.
He was preceded in death by parents, son, wife, brothers, Robert (Bob) and Gary, and sister-in-law Geraldine.
Funeral service, Thursday, Sept. 5, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
