Driver escapes blazing car, fire fighters douse flames
Drivers coming into Price caught a unique sight as a car engine caught fire along Highway 6 on Thursday afternoon.
The car, a silver 2007 PT Cruiser, had a fire start in the engine compartment but the exact cause of the fire is unknown, according to Price City Fire Chief Paul Bedont.
Bedont said the driver, a Helper resident, heard a loud bang and felt the car backfire shortly before the engine erupted in flames before 1 p.m. on Thursday.
While the car was destroyed, the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was able to exit to safety and reported no injuries to emergency responders, according to Bedont.
The car fire also ignited a small grass fire along the highway that burned about 220 square feet of grass along the road, Bedont said.
